"'In Everything You Wanted To Know About Gay Porn Stars *but were afraid to ask,'
I interviewed sixteen men that perform in gay porn and asked them what makes them
tick. This is their forum and their voice. When I spoke to these men, I wanted to
know what their parents thought, how they got into the industry and what their
ultimate goals were. I found them incredibly bright, sensitive and inspiring," says
Roecker. Topics covered in these revealing interviews include the impact of drugs
on the industry, the dangers behind unprotected sex, depression, and the stigmas
and drawbacks one must cope with when starring in the gay porn industry.
Despite these very serious topics, the show manages to show us the lighter sides
of these hunky entertainers, some of whom have very interesting and uplifting
stories to tell.
REVIEW:
So often the men in the gay porn industry are looked at only as their characters,
like an actor/actress on a popular television program – it’s easy to become stuck
in a role; only as deep as the character you play. Everything You Wanted to Know
About Gay Porn Stars *But Were Afraid to Ask breaks that stereotyping. The
series presents the men in an intimate one on one setting where they are able to
open up about life, love, dreams, mistakes, hurt – leaving you at the end feeling
as though they are guys you have known your entire life.
Displaying the stars as men instead of just sexual objects adds such a strong
level of intimacy and personhood that it is almost impossible to watch just one
segment of the series at a time. By the end of each episode you are left ready –
wanting the next – wanting to know more about these guys that are now your friends.
Though the whole series revolves around gay porn stars don’t expect a set of
smutty DVDs, while there is some full frontal nudity – sex is not the objective.
There are segments shot on location where you do get to see some “naughty-naughty”,
but overall this is a docu-series, not an erotic tell all. I would defiantly
recommend adding this to your DVD collection!
